Communities living close to the river were also urged to report any bodies spotted floating on top of the water to ensure progress in the rescue efforts.

The latest developments come a day after a truck rolled into the flooded Kwa Muswii River while attempting to cross it at the Sultan Hamud road in Makueni.

According to witnesses, the lorry was ferrying building material when people jumped onto it as it attempted to cross the flooded river.

In viral videos of the incident, several people could be spotted seated on top of the lorry as it crossed the waters on the shallow end.

In the process of attempting to cross the river, the lorry accidentally slid into the deep end and overturned, rendering the people onboard helpless.

Red Cross in its statement, noted that rescue efforts were still underway to retrieve all the bodies that were swept away by the flooded river.

The tragic incident came even as the country continued to experience heavy downpours in different parts of the country.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior warned Kenyans including drivers and pedestrians against crossing flooded waters, especially during this rainy season.
