Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura on Wednesday, May 8, revealed that a chopper that was carrying him alongside Kenya Red Cross officials made an emergency landing while travelling from Kisumu.

In a statement, he noted that the pilot had to land in Kikuyu, Kiambu County owing to safety concerns for the people on board.

Mwaura indicated that the chopper could not continue with the journey given that the weather conditions were poor, affecting visibility.

The government spokesperson noted that all the occupants were safe during the emergency landing.

He thanked God for the safety of all those who were on board the chopper, further thanking Kenyans for the concerns they had expressed.

"I am safe fellow Kenyans. Our plane had to make an emergency landing in Gishungo, Kikuyu Constituency due to poor weather conditions.

"Idriss Ahmed the Secretary General of the Kenya Redcross and I had gone to Nyando in Kisumu to deliver relief of Non-Food Items (NFIs) to the Floods Affected Persons (FAPs). We arrived home safely and we thank God for this," he stated.

Mwaura made the remarks after reports emerged over the incident involving the chopper which was ferrying them from Kisumu where they had gone to monitor the recent flooding in the area.

Kenyans had expressed concerns over the incident owing to the recent incidents that have involved planes and choppers.

In the latest chopper incident which occurred in Elegeyo Marakwet, former Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Francis Ogolla and other senior military officials lost their lives.

The incident is still under active investigation with a report on the incident expected in the coming months.

On the other hand, on March 9, a chopper ferrying Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen was also involved in an incident while he was headed to various events in Rift Valley and Nyanza.
