The spouse, a 29-year-old man, who has yet to be identified, was promptly taken into custody.

Before an identification was made, the Reading Chronicle reported that the Senior investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Stuart May, of the Major Crime Unit, had confirmed an arrest.

“We are in the very early stages of this murder investigation, but we have made an arrest and are we are not currently looking for anyone else. There is no known threat to the wider public," he stated.

“We have been unable to speak to the victim’s next of kin yet, so please be mindful and avoid speculating online."

According to the Kenyan Diaspora Media, Linner had recently graduated and had started working in the UK as a Social Care Worker in 2023. Her spouse was also working in the industry and had followed her there from Kenya shortly after relocating.

The altercation

The news outlet further reported that the altercation leading up to her murder started on Thursday, September 3, when the deceased reportedly left their shared apartment following an argument.

She would return a few days later on Sunday, accompanied by a friend, to collect her belongings when another confrontation erupted. Shortly after, she was fatally attacked with a knife.

Neighbours responding to the screams led the suspect to flee, allegedly by jumping out of a window, but he was later found by police officers near a river, where he was reportedly attempting to take his own life.
