The Open University of Kenya (OUK) has introduced 60 new academic programmes, some of which will be fully sponsored.
In a notice dated Tuesday, September 9, 2025, the university invited qualified candidates to apply to programmes ranging from short professional courses to PhD studies.
“The Open University of Kenya (OUK) is a specialised public university Chartered in August 2023. The University offers quality, affordable, flexible, accessible, inclusive and self-paced online Professional Development Courses and Programmes to Kenyan citizens and beyond. Applications are invited for admission into the listed courses and programmes,” part of the notice reads.
According to a notice on myGov, the OUK listed the fully sponsored short courses, such as a three-week course on Business Models for Entrepreneurs and a two-week course on Mental Health Awareness.
Free ICT certifications will also be offered, including a 10-week course on BCS Generative Artificial Intelligence Applications, as well as Meta training courses such as My Digital World, Digital Marketing Associate, and Certified Media Planning Professional.
Among other professional development courses that will run for between 4 to 8 weeks at a cost of Ksh 5,000 each are Corporate Governance, Accountability Fundamentals, E-learning Essentials, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, and Robotics and Automation.
According to OUK, the International Certificate of Digital Literacy (ICDL) certifications will be available at Ksh 12,000.
Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programmes
OUK also announced new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
The Undergraduate courses, such as Bachelor of Data Science, Bachelor of Business and Entrepreneurship, and BSc in Cyber Security, will cost between Ksh79,000 and Ksh86,000 per year.
Postgraduate programmes include Master's in Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics, Business Administration, and Education Leadership and Policy, each costing Ksh187,500 for the entire two-year programme.
PhD studies in Business Management and Education Leadership, and Policy will take three years at a total cost of Ksh337,500.
According to OUK, to qualify, applicants must meet minimum entry requirements ranging from KCSE C+ and above, relevant diplomas, or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Postgraduate applicants must hold a relevant degree, while PhD candidates require a Master’s in the related field.
Interested applicants are encouraged to apply through the OUK KUCCPS portal for immediate KCSE candidates as all other applicants can apply directly via the OUK admissions portal.
