The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has announced the death of its Mombasa County Organising Secretary, Peter Odhiambo, popularly known as Rainbow.
His death was confirmed by ODM Deputy Party leader Abdulswamad Nassir, in a condolence message shared on behalf of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who is currently out of the country.
In the condolence message by the Mombasa Governor, he described Odhimabo as one of the most devoted party grassroots mobilisers.
Nasir eulogised Odhiambo as a committed and passionate party mobilizer whose dedication to the ideals of justice, unity and service left an indelible mark on the ODM movement in Mombasa and beyond.
While expressing his condolences to the deceased's family, Nassir noted that Odhiambo's energy, loyalty, and unwavering belief in the cause of the people would be greatly missed.
"On behalf of our Party Leader, Raila Odinga, I convey our deepest condolences to the ODM party family and the people of Mombasa following the passing of our County Organising Secretary, Peter 'Rainbow' Odhiambo," the Governor wrote.
"We join his family, friends, and the entire ODM fraternity in mourning this great comrade. May his memory continue to inspire us to strengthen the movement he so faithfully served," he added.
Odhiambo's death astonished many people who knew him, particularly ODM members in Mombasa, with political leaders joining in and paying their tributes.
The deceased was a familiar political figure in Mombasa County, playing a crucial role in planning and organising ODM events in the coastal county through rallying support for the party.
Odhiambo's death adds to the list of staunch ODM party members who have passed away since the year began, among them is the ODM Ward Chairperson for Awendo, Volley Among'o.
Oduor died in July this year following a brief illness. Others are Jorim Olweny, the ODM party's Chairman for Muhoroni-Koru Ward, who passed away in May 2025.
Notably, Kasipul Member of Parliament Ong'ondo Were is also among the staunch ODM party members who died this year. The MP was assassinated by unknown people on April 30, this year, while driving near City Mortuary roundabout in Nairobi.
