2 Die, Hundreds Left Homeless As Floods Hit The Coastal Region

More than two people have died and hundreds left homeless after flooding in the coastal region as a result of heavy rains over the past few weeks.

One person died at Changamwe in Mombasa after his house at the Kalahari slum was flattened by a landslide triggered by the heavy rains, The Nation reports.

According to K24 one child drowned after falling in as she was playing in the rain water. Another child died from cholera in Kambi Kikuyu, Kisauni.

Citizen Tv reports that 50 people have been diagnosed with diarrhea and 27 others suffering from cholera after drinking contaminated water due to poor drainage.

Roads have also been rendered impassable with some regions being cut off as a result. As of Monday, residents could not access Shimba Hills from Ukunda after the major bridge connecting the two areas was washed off.

Red cross has been reportedly providing relief for affected residents in the county.
