Former Senator Calls for Caretaker Government Led by Speaker Justin Muturi

A leader affiliated to the National Super Alliance (NASA) has proposed for the formation of a government led by National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.

Former Nyamira Senator Kennedy Mong'are now wants the country to form a caretaker government instead of holding a presidential election on October 17.

According to Mong'are, the IEBC is currently facing various issues and might not manage to organize an election within the days stipulated by the law.

He stated that the Speaker should, therefore, take over the government as the caretaker as dictated by the Constitution.

Mong'are stated that he had foreseen and actually talked about the issues the country is facing right now but noted that nobody had listened to him.

The Electoral Commission, on Monday, announced that the repeat presidential election would be conducted on October 17, though the date has been contested by the opposition.

Sharp differences have been witnessed within the body after the IEBC boss Wafula Chebukati sidelined CEO Ezra Chiloba in the new team he unveiled to oversee the October election.

However, the situation at the Commission took a new twist following a leaked memo from Chebukati to Chiloba demanding answers for the errors that occurred during the August elections.

The Chairman hit the CEO with 12 tough questions including seeking an explanation on why some individuals created and operated an account in the electoral system using his name without Chebukati's knowledge.

He also sought to know why 500 polling stations never submitted presidential results and why the KIEMS GPRS was switched off on August 5 among other issues.
