Tahmeed Bus Catches Fire in Kwale County

A vehicle belonging to Tahmeed bus company on Thursday morning caught fire with 39 passengers on board.

The bus that was headed to Dar es Salaam from Mombasa went ablaze at Mwashatani area, along Likoni-Lunga Lunga highway, Kwale county.

Passengers escaped death narrowly with police reports indicating that there were no casualties.

Photos of the incident seen by Kenyans.co.ke show the bus reduced to a shell during the unfortunate incident.

Lunga Lunga Deputy County Commissioner, Mr Josphat Biwott, confirmed the incident indicating that investigations have been launched to establish the cause of the fire.

“We suspect that the incident was caused by wiring problem in the vehicle,” Biwott stated.

Reports indicate that all passengers escaped unhurt although one woman is said to have twisted her leg as she tried to escape through the window.

Mr Biwott further advised drivers to inspect their vehicles thoroughly before departure to ensure they are in good condition.

Only a small portion of the passenger's luggage was salvaged from the burning bus as efforts to contain the fire turned futile.

The 39 passengers who escaped death narrowly continued with the journey to Tanzania after another bus was sent to pick them.
