At least 3 people have died and 4 others injured by raging floods, following heavy downpour that hit Nairobi, Tuesday evening.

A woman and her 3 year-old son in Kayole were swept away by the raging waters while an 8 year-old boy perished from the floods in Baba Dogo area, The Standard reports.

Confirming the incident Kayole OCPD Ali Nuno has said the bodies have been retrieved and moved to the mortuary.

Motorists and commuters were also held up in the heavy traffic snarl ups that have also been linked to the movement of the presidential motorcade, accompanied by his deputy William Ruto, a number of Cabinet Secretaries and security commanders from the airport to the Central Business District which led to the closure of some major roads.

President Kenyatta was arriving from Khartoum, Sudan where he had attended the inauguration of re-elected President Omar Bashir.

According to Nairobi Traffic Commandant Edward Mwamburi some motorists were still on the road as late as 1am.
