Brigid Kosgei Wins 2018 Chicago Marathon

Kenyan athlete Brigid Kosgei took the first place slot during Sunday's 2018 edition of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.

Kosgei clocked 2:18:35 which went into record as the third fastest time in the event's history so far.

Ms Kosgei, 24, finished with a huge lead against her closest competitor who was Ethiopia’s Roza Dereje.

The 2018 Champion had taken second place during the 2017 Chicago Marathon, having lost first place to Ethiopian legend Tirunesh Dibaba.

Speaking to the media shortly after her win, Kosgei conveyed that she had braved an injury to make it to the top.

"I feel okay because last year I was position two.

"Today I have a bit of an injury but I broke my time. I was injured but [despite] the problem, the injury, I swallowed the pain," she told reporters.

She further conveyed that she had enjoyed the run despite the drizzle that fell on the runners and the chilly weather.

"I enjoy when the rain is coming. I enjoy the run more than no rain," she told NBC Chicago reporters.

In the men's race, Sir Mo Farah of Great Britain took home the gold medal clocking 2:05:11.

"It was nice to be able to race against Galen [Rupp] and the rest of the guys. He won last year here and it was nice to be able to come back the following year and win," he stated after the race.
