A Kenyan legal scholar is set to be honoured by the Havard Law School for her powerful voice in advocacy.
Prof Patricia Kameri Mbote has been listed for honours at the 2019 Annual Harvard law International Women’s Day Portrait Exhibit.
She has been an advocate of the High Court for more than 25 years and is the School of Law Dean at the University of Nairobi.
Prof Mbote will be among 21 women feted the Wasserstein hall from today to Sunday next week.
“The honourees – nominated by the Harvard Law School students, faculty or staff – are powerful voices in their respective fields, whether they are sitting on a High Court bench, standing in front of a classroom or marching in the streets reads a post on the website.
The senior counsel studied law at the University of Nairobi, the University of Warwick, the University of Zimbabwe and pursued her doctoral studies at Stanford Law School.
She is a member of the IUCN Commission on Environmental Law, a board member of the Advocates Coalition for Development and Environment (ACODE-Uganda) and Women and Law in East Africa (WLEA).
Prof Mbote has consulted for the World Bank, United Nations (UN), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) and the government of Kenya.
She is also the Africa Editor of the Law, Environment and Development Journal (LEAD journal), a peer-reviewed academic journal.
Her interests are in human rights, gender equality, social justice, land reform, environment, intellectual property and legal scholarship.
