Ruto Speaks on Sacking Former CS Rashid Echesa

Deputy President (DP) William Ruto has finally come clean on the numerous question regarding former Sports CS Rashid Echesa's sacking.

Speaking to Citizen TV's Hussein Hussein Mohammed at his Karen home, Ruto indicated that as the appointing authority President Uhuru Kenyatta and himself had the right to show him the door.

"We have had CS Echesa sacked, he has been demanding to know, why was he sacked," Hussein posed.

Answering to the question, Ruto framed a query, "Put on the flip side, why was he hired?".

The TV anchor responded that given that the DP sits at the presidency, he was better positioned to understand why Echesa landed the post.

"I think the same hiring authority deserves the right to fire... with or without a reason," he summed it up.

Prior to his sacking, the former Sports CS had dared Opposition leader Raila Odinga to fire him given that the ODM kingpin was not the appointing authority.

Ruto further indicated that he is a hands-on person when it comes to running the government.

"I call CSs and PSs every day on every matter. As the Deputy President, I have an interest in all government projects being delivered," he noted.

Ruto, however, clarified that independent institutions such as DCI do not report to the presidency.

"I have confidence in all institutions... I am very interested in what he (DCI) says contrary to the facts that I know about the (Arror and Kimwarer) dams," Ruto indicated.

He equally maintained that he does respect the autonomy of the independence institutions including the investigating authorities.

"Has DCI told you that William Ruto has called him? Or that I interfered with investigations?... I have not said investigations should stop. What I have said is that people should not use the investigations to run a political narrative against Jubilee," he concluded.
