DP Ruto's Long Held Dream to be Locomotive Driver

Deputy President William Ruto has opened up on his long held dream to be a locomotive driver.

Speaking on Tuesday during deliberations with the Kenya National Film Festival Instructors at his Karen office, Ruto revisited his days as a chicken seller.

According to the DP, he was doing the business between 1978 and 1980 with a head of chicken costing between Ksh12 and Ksh14.

"Ndiyo mjue Mungu ni wa ajabu... Siku hiyo, hata sikuamini eti naweza kua mtu... yani ile niliwa nafikiria kabisa ni kua driver wa gari moshi (You need to know God is marvelous. Back then, I never dreamt I would be somebody in the society. My greatest dream was to be a locomotive driver).

"Hapo ndiyo nilikua nimejipanga. Pale nilikua nauza kuku ilikua ni karibu na reli (That is the furthest I had planned to go. I was selling the chicken next to a railway line)

"Nilikua naona hii gari moshi inatembea nikasema, 'hii kitu nitakuja kuendesha siku moja' (I used to see the train pass by and I would say, one day I will commandeer this thing)," Ruto added as the audience burst out in laughter.

Ruto indicated that he fully understand when someone identifies as a vegetable vendor or other ordinary businessperson.

"When I talk about being a hustler, it is no joke, neither is it fun. When I hear you saying that you sell potatoes, vegetables, or cabbages, I fully resonate with your world.

"I know you can start as a green grocer and end up being an influential person in this country," he concluded.
