VIDEO: 11 Arrested with Weapons at CORD Madaraka Day Rally

11 suspects were Wednesday morning arrested trying to gain entry into Uhuru Park while in possession of crude weapons, ahead of CORD's event at the grounds.

Confirming the incident, Kilimani OCPD Peter Katam indicated that the suspects were found with weapons including pangas and rungus while being frisked on their way into the park.

In a video capturing the incident, the suspects are seen being bundled into a police vehicle before being driven away for further interrogation.

The High Court on Tuesday ruled that CORD had a right to hold its political rally at Uhuru Park on condition that they maintained law and order.

Justice George Odunga ordered police to provide security during, before, and after the rally.

Meanwhile, President Uhuru Kenyatta will lead the celebrations from Afraha Stadium in Nakuru, which will be the first time the festivities are being staged outside Nairobi.

A high number of security agents have been deployed at both venues to avert any chaotic incidents.

This year's Madaraka Day celebration marks the 53rd anniversary of Kenya’s self-rule.
