6 Dead, 28 Hospitalised For Lack of Alcohol

6 people yesterday, succumbed to severe alcohol withdrawal effects while 28 others are hospitalised in Murang’a and Kiambu counties.

This follows the intensive crackdown on illicit brews which has left a majority of the targeted alcohol addicts, vulnerable to the withdrawal effects.

According to a Star report, the six who have died and 12 of the hospitalised are  from Kiambu, while 22 are admitted at Murang’a District Hospital.

Kiambu county governor William Kabogo, yesterday expressed the county’s support for the victims saying he is doing enough to ensure the victims of the toxic alcohol, are treated and rehabilitated.

Kiambu county has set up 13 centers that will provide rehabilitation support to recovering addicts.

Murang’a county director of health Winfred Kanyi noted that there are many more victims who are staying away, over fear of being stigmatized.

Families of the victims have been urged to ensure those affected seek immediate medical attention.

On Sunday, four men in Nyahururu, Nyandarua county reportedly collapsed over extreme withdrawal effects after they failed to access the the illegal brew.
