6 Killed in Police 2-Hour Shootout

Six people lost their lives on Thursday night after police officers engaged in a deadly gunfight in an attempt to foil a robbery in Isebania, Migori County.

The six included two civilians and four robbers who were caught in the gun fire that reportedly lasted for more than two hours.

The shootout ensued after members of the public accosted a gang of four men which had just robbed an area businessman, forcing them (robbers) to shoot dead the two civilians.

Police officers in the area responded to an alarm and engaged in the lengthy shooting that left the four suspects dead.

Migori County Police Commander David Kirui confirmed the incident adding that the officers managed to recover two AK47 rifles.

However, the residents decried lack of enough security personnel, claiming that only two armed officers were deployed to handle the situation.
