A video of National Assembly Majority Leader Amos Kimunya's tough talk in a church in Kiambaa has caused controversy online.

In the clip that emerged on Monday, June 14, the Kipipiri MP is accused of threatening Kiambaa voters over the withdrawal of development funds in the region.

He is heard claiming that development in the area might not be properly fulfilled if they did not elect the Jubilee candidate Kariri Njama.

"Kiambaa people, if you do not give me Kariri Njama, do you expect me to look at Kiambaa?

"If you elect someone who doesn't want to work with the govt, how will you get development. If the money for roads which you need, it comes from the government. You should know that even here in church, we are taught that those who accept Jesus will see heaven, those who don't will go to hell," stated Kimunya.

The lawmaker allegedly made the utterance while addressing a congregation at the Anglican Church of Kenya, Diocese of Mt Kenya South in Kiambaa Constituency, Kihara ward.

Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata who shared the video termed the utterances as unfair and unfortunate.

"Hon. Kimunya, I think this is unfair and unfortunate. Kiambaa residents deserve development like any other Kenyan. Condemning them to hell if they vote UDA is a little bit extreme," stated Kang'ata.

Other voters weighed in on the talk arguing that with the statement, Kimunya might have cost the ruling party a win in the region.

"Amos Kimunya did well to come to bury Jubilee in Kiamba and let UDA be delivered without too much pushing, as it were, of the wheelbarrow," stated Thamaini Karanja.

During the Sunday, June 13, campaigns, Kimunya revealed that his caravan supporting the Jubilee candidate interacted peacefully with UDA supporters.

"This afternoon I joined my fellow Jubilee Party MPs on a meet the people tour in Kiambaa and we interacted with UDA supporters along the way.

"I am pleased that as a country, we have a vibrant democracy where we can hold different views and still maintain peace," he stated.

Campaigns for the Kiambaa by-election, which is set for July 15, 2021, are now in high gear with Njama set to battle out with UDA candidate John Njuguna Wanjiku in the race.
