Fathers Day 2021: Eldoret Family Buys Ksh 561K Nation Full Page to Celebrate Special Dad

A family in Eldoret has gone above and beyond to ensure that their father celebrates his birthday doubled as Fathers Day in a special way.

The family of David Mburu Wakaimba, in the Sunday, June 20, edition of the Nation, bought a full page advertisement on page 11 and dedicated it to the patriarch.

In the corresponding advertising feature, the family thanked the 86-year-old for imparting good virtues into the children and according them an education.

They referred to Mburu as the father and grandfather of the century and served as a mentor, protector, teacher, hero, role model and advisor.

Mburu, who was born in Ebur village, Nakuru County, was disqualified from pursuing formal education because he was perceived as being too tall.

In the tribute, the kin hailed him for not giving up on his quest for success and started selling pumice stone in Gilgil and would walk long distances to the market.

He later shifted base to Nakuru town where he studied tailoring and opened a shop before shifting to Eldoret. Shortly after, he began selling Mitumba clothing before pivoting to shoe store.

After achieving success, Bata Shoe Company approached him to be sub-contracted as its distributor in Eldoret.

"You bought your first farm at the age of 30. It was 100 acres, where you settled your father with his new bride.

"They lived there with their 12 children, until you settled them in a farm in Mangu," read the tribute in part.

The father of 12 has several grandchildren spread all across the country with some residing in the United States of America.

"Much more than education, you have installed in us timeless values that will remain with us forever. You also gave us the opportunity for learning business in your own school.

"Today is also a special day for you and your beloved wife, Annah Wangechi, because you celebrate your 86th years. It is a wonder and we cannot take it for granted," continued the statement.

A rate card seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed that Nation Media Group charges 561,000 for a full page advertisement in colour - for the Sunday Nation edition - while those who wish to advertise in black and white part with Ksh449,000.
