Ruto Revisits Awkward Handshake With Alfred Mutua

Deputy President William Ruto on Sunday, June 27, affirmed that he and Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua were friends despite the awkward handshake in December 2019.

Ruto was in Machakos County attending the installation of Phillip Muia as Machakos area Bishop and Bishop Benjamin Kalanzo his assistant at the Africa Inland Church Bomani, Machakos Town.

He stated that Mutua had told him that he was in Nakuru attending the just-ended World Rally Championship. and it was unfortunate that they could not be together in the function.

"Unajua Mutua ni rafiki yangu, saa zingine nikimsalamia analalamika. Lakini ni rafiki yangu," Ruto expressed to the congregation.

While addressing the media at Kilimani Police Station in December 2019, the Meaendeo Chapchap leader mentioned that he wrote a letter to the Inspector General alleging threats by Ruto, Duale, and Murkomen on two separate occasions.

He alleged that on  December 11, 2019, as a guest at State House for a banquet in honour of visiting Barbados Prime Minister, when he had an encounter with the DP who was in the company of Garissa Township MP Aden Duale who made threats to him during a short-lived conversation.

He stated the country's number two held his hands firmly saying that he would hit back at him in response to Mutua's attacks. He explained that Ruto had a petrifying voice and angry eyes when addressing him.

Ruto brushed off the allegations stating that his gesture was misunderstood and had no bad intentions with the governor.

"Unajua kama wewe ni mtu hustler,unauza kuku unafanya nini nini .Sasa ukisalaia mtu pengine unapitisha kiwango, katika ile kuhustle. (Once you are a hustler, especially in the chicken selling business, one tends to gain a firm grip),"the DP explained.

He also asked for forgiveness from the congregation for any misunderstanding that may have arisen from the incident.

The earlier incident happened on November 25, 2019, when he went to witness the president receive the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report at State House.

Mutua further claimed that Elgeyo Marakwet Senator and Garissa Town Legislator threatened to fix him and deal with him for attacking Ruto

He reported the case at the Kilimani Pollice station under OB Number 50/16/12/2019.

In a separate event, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Mussyoka denounced claims made by Mavoko lawmaker Patrick Makau that he was planning to form a coalition with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
