The last moments of a police officer who collapsed and died shortly after leaving his girlfriend's house on Saturday, July 24, have been revealed.
Officer David Kurgat's friends and colleagues stated that he was in good moods on Friday and were surprised to hear of his sudden demise the following day.
Kuresoi Sub-County Police Commander Henry Nyaranga stated that Kurgat had driven him to and from Nakuru on Friday and was in good health.
His friend, William Randich, disclosed that he and the deceased had organised a dinner later in the evening. However, when Randich contacted him, he turned him down saying that something had come up.
"He said he was held up and could not make it," Randich told the Nation.
Kurgat's wife Sophie Kurgat stated that the deceased had visited their home just three days before he met his death.
She demanded the authorities to speed up investigations so as to establish whether there was any foul play.
"My husband has never been sick. He was healthy. He never told us he was sick or if anything was bothering him. I was shocked when I received the news of his death," she stated.
The family called upon the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti and the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to intervene and help speed up investigations.
A post mortem is yet to be conducted to establish the cause of death.
On the fateful day, Kurgat visited his girlfriend, Lucy Chepkorir, who resided 1 kilometre North West of Olenguruone Police Station in Kuresoi South, Nakuru County.
He was allegedly given a cup of tea at Chepkorir's home minutes before he collapsed.
Chepkorir is under custody of Keringet Police Station for seven days pending investigation into the matter.
