Digital Strategist, Dennis Itumbi, on Friday, August 13 recorded a statement at Kasarani Police Station alleging an attempt on his life.

Itumbi claimed that he was trailed by unknown assailants who attacked him at Thome, Kasarani.

The former State House Director of Digital Communications alleged that a lorry blocked him on the highway along the Northern Bypass before another car pulled over.

"A man walked out aiming a gun at him and fired some shots. Itumbi sped from the scene and in the process hit another vehicle that was on the road. He was not arrested. Reports alleging that he was apprehended by the police are false," Wanjohi Githae, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Communications Director, told Kenyans.co.ke

Wanjohi directed further questions to Kasarani OCPD Peter Nyaga. Nyaga confirmed that Itumbi reported the matter which was under investigation.

However, a police officer privy to the incident refuted reports that Itumbi survived an assassination attempt.

The law enforcer told Kenyans.co.ke on phone that Itumbi, Deputy President William Ruto's confidant, was arrested by the police at Garden Estate area in Kasarani.

This was after police officers trailed him for a few hours on the highway.

"I do not have the exact details of the case. All I know is they tracked and apprehended him. He attempted to evade arrest, but the detectives pinned him down," the source told Kenyans.co.ke

"I cannot confirm whether he was charged or even detained."

On social media, Ruto's allies wished Itumbi well, some calling for his release. However, all of them were cagey with details of the case.

"Dennis Itumbi, I hope you're safe comrade!" nominated Senator, Millicent Omanga tweeted.
