Notorious Mulot Sim Swap Scammer Arrested

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), on Friday, December 30, confirmed the arrest of the notorious swim swap gang leader who has been on the run.

According to Rift Valley head of DCI, detectives nabbed the suspect outside a local bank in Kericho town after getting a tip-off from the members of the public.

“He was arrested this morning and our officers are talking to him before we know the way forward,” the head of DCI in Rift Valley confirmed.

His attempts to flee, according to a statement released by the DCI, were thwarted by the public who went for him before the police officers manning the premise intervened. 

By the time of publishing this article, the notorious gang leader who is accused of running the infamous sim swap syndicate in the region was being questioned at the DCI offices in Kericho.

Plans to move him to Nairobi were, however, underway.

According to the DCI officers, he is being interrogated over several mobile phone-related scams.

On Wednesday, December 28, the DCI Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau unmasked the identity of the suspect who, records show, had served time in prison and had a number of cases and warrants of arrest on him.

Reports shared by the DCI indicated that the suspect vied for a Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat in the August 9, General Elections but lost.

He had earlier on, sought to run under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket before switching camps to the United Democratic Party (UDP).

The suspect, together with his accomplices, are accused of illegally gaining access to a bank account belonging to a Member of Parliament from the area and sweeping it clean of Ksh941,000.

The lawmaker was outside the country at the time of the incident.
