Joseph Omuse came to the limelight in August 2023 as one of the young players who demonstrated exemplary performance during Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) national football champions.
To many who cheered him on, Omuse was a great student from St. Anthony's Boys Kitale. However, to his mentor, Pastor Joseph Mukolwe, the young footballer has had a long journey that can be traced from the streets of Bungoma.
According to Pastor Mukolwe, Omuse is an orphaned boy who was rescued from the streets of Bungoma some 12 years ago.
"As part of our mission, we met Omuse on the streets of Bungoma and took him. We mentored Omuse to be a great student, and by the mercies of GOD, Omuse has turned out to be a great student both in class and field.
Before joining St. Anthony High School, Omuse was enrolled in a children's home, where he honed his footballing skills while being coached by caretakers.
"Even though I am not professionally trained, I'm happy to say that I was Omuse's first coach. At the time, Omuse demonstrated discipline and love for football," Mukolwe stated.
He eventually became the captain of his high school team, St. Anthony Boys' High School, and led them to victory at the national high school games.
The Bungoma-based Pastor noted that Omuse's story is an inspiration to many, not only because of his success as a footballer, but also because of his resilience and determination in the face of adversity.
He stated that Omuse is a role model for young people all over the world, showing them that anything is possible if you set your mind to it.
"Omuse's rise to stardom has been meteoric. In addition to leading his school team to victory at the national games, he was also named one of the most outstanding players of the tournament," the Pastor revealed.
"This caught the attention of scouts from all over the world, including an international player who offered him Ksh100,000 as a reward."
The Pastor observed that Omuse's success has also had a positive impact on his community, especially at his local Church and children's home.
He noted that Omuse is a shining example of what can be achieved through hard work and dedication. He is an inspiration to us all, and we wish him all the best in his future career.
On Saturday, September 23, 2023, Omuse is one of the St. Anthony Boys High School Kitale's students who were gifted to lift the Kenya Secondary School Sports Association National Football Champions trophy.
"Omuse's story is a reminder that anything is possible, regardless of your background or circumstances. With hard work and determination, you can achieve your dreams," the Pastor encouraged St. Anthony Boys High School Kitale students.
