The family of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Francis Ogolla on Friday, April 19, revealed that the burial arrangements were underway according to his wish.

Speaking to the media, Ogolla's father Joel Oketch noted that his son had expressed the desire to be buried within 72 hours if he met his untimely demise.

He noted that the burial would be held on April 21, 2024, at his home in Ng'iya, Alego Usonga in Siaya County. Ogolla had constructed a house situated two kilometres from the family home in Siaya.

Further, they informed the press that the general had made plans to celebrate his father's birthday as he crossed 100 years on Saturday in Siaya.

Part of the plans involved attending a church service and also holding an event at home.

Ogolla's sister Peris Oketch added that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in Nairobi were arranging burial preparations in line with the military protocol.

She explained that Ogolla's wife and close relatives were also involved in the burial arrangements.

While commemorating his life, Ogolla's family termed him as a diligent person who was revered by his peers. They also reflected on his sheer hard work and benevolent nature.

Reports indicated that Ogolla's father was left with many questions regarding his son's demise.

President William Ruto, Acting Chief of Defence Forces and their deputy, Cabinet Secretaries for Interior and Defence, Attorney General,  and other high-ranking government officials are expected to attend the burial.

Despite the well-outlined protocols on the burials of military and servicemen, the president has the prerogative to choose how to treat this burial, with Ogolla being the first ever Chief of Defence Forces to die in office.

Here is the full family statement:

It is with profound sorrow and acceptance of God's will that we announce the funeral arrangements of CDF General Francis Omondi Ogolla, a gallant Military professional and a distinguished member of our community.

In honour of his humble nature, General Ogolla specified that his burial occurs within 72 hours of his passing, echoing the profound truth that from dust we came and to dust we shall return.

His family has dutifully chosen Sunday, April 21, 2024, for his final farewell, to be held at his cherished home in Mor, Alego, Siaya County.

This will be preceded by a heartfelt service at his local church in Nduru. Additionally, a Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024, at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Langata, where he found solace in his biweekly runs.

Let us gather, to celebrate the life of a General who dedicated his life to service, love, generosity and devotion that touched us all deeply. We appreciate your prayers and support during this difficult time
