Kenyan Athlete Alexander Munyao is the champion of the just concluded London Marathon 2024 - male category.
Munyao crossed the finish line ahead of 3-time champion Kenenisa Bekele from Ethiopia. The winner finished with a time of 2:04:01.
"Alexander Munyao fights of Kenenisa Bekele and wins the 2024 TCS London Marathon," announced the London Marathon through its official channels.
The runners up finished with a time of two hours, four minutes and 15 seconds (2:04:15).
Bekele, 41, has been on the athletics scene for a while now and won three Olympic golds and five world titles but was yet to win on the streets of London.
Britain's Emile Cairess finished third in the marathon followed by another Brit Mahamed Mahamed who are expected to head to the Paris Olympics after the race.
The third, Cairess, and fourth, Mahamed, contestants managed a time of 2:06:46 and 2:07:05 respectively.
According to the World Athletics website, Munyao is relatively a new entrant in the marathon race having only previously won a bronze medal during the World U18 Championships.
Related, another Kenyan, Peres Jepchirchir, won the London Marathon female race after clocking a time of 2:16:15 and broke the world record in the process.
The previous women's record had been held by Mary Keitany.
Peres was racing against Tigist Assefa (Ethiopia) who finished with a time of 2:16:23, Megertu Alemu (Ethiopia) and Joyciline Jepkosgei (Kenya) who managed 2:16:24.
Jepchirchir is only a few years old into her athletics career having staged her first major championship in 2019 during the Luso Meia Maratona, Lisboa, Half Marathon in Portugal.
