The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) on Friday killed 20 terrorists including a bomb expert, when they raided an Al Shabaab operation training camp at Sidimo in Gedo region.
The explosives' expert identified as Maalim Sherrif, is said to be the architect of various bomb attacks incidents in Gedo region and other operations of the militia group.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Defence, KDF troops involved in the offensive recovered: 16 AK 47 rifles, 6 Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), 2 pistols, 8 RPGS, assorted ammunition and Global Positioning System (GPS) gadgets.
Some of the terrorists however, managed to escape the raid with multiple injuries.
The military assured Kenyans that it will not relent in their efforts to uproot the extremist group.
“The KDF would like to reassure the public that the operation tempo against the Al Shabaab terrorists will continue until the AMISOM and state is achieved and KDF's resolve and commitment to fight the terrorist will be maintained,” the statement read in part.
The attack on Al shabaab comes after the militia group ambushed KDF's El Adde camp in January, where an unspecified number of soldiers were killed.
