The American charged on Monday at a Mombasa court for being in possession of illegal firearms was an FBI agent.
Retired FBI agent, Richardson Clyde Roller and his Kenyan wife Mercy Mwendwa denied owning two unlicensed guns before Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi.
Magistrate Shitubi released the couple on a Sh500,000 bond and ordered Mr Roller, who has lived in Kenya for the past decade to deposit his passport with the court.
The two were arrested on Saturday by the Anti-Terror Unit Police at their home in Nyali, Mombasa following a tip off from the public.
Reports suggest that Mr Roller has for a while been under police radar following claims that he could be in possession of explosives.
