American Shot Fighting Thugs in Nairobi

An American national was on Wednesday killed in Nairobi's Lavington area by armed gunmen who ordered him to surrender his bag.

26-year-old Cameron Chase was ambushed by two gangsters riding on a motorbike who shot him when he attacked one of the gangsters.

A lady who was accompanying the deceased reportedly intervened pleading with him to let go of the purse, but Mr Chase resisted provoking one of the attackers to shoot him.

Confirming the incident, Nairobi Police Commandant Japheth Koome said the thugs shot him once in the head and twice in the stomach and chest then ran over him.

The victim was rushed to Nairobi West Hospital by a good samaritan but was pronounced dead upon arrival at the facility.

“I removed my first aid kit but realised that his condition was serious. He had been shot in the head,” said the rescuer who is also a doctor.

According to the police, one of the assailants is a well-known robber who has been targeting foreigners in posh estates.

The same gang is believed to have orchestrated another attack on Tuesday in which they shot and wounded a Chinese man.

Police are trailing the gangsters.
