Businessman Shoots Bank Agent Over Sh1.7 Million

A businessman in Eldoret town shot an auctioneer of Rafiki Microfinance when he was confronted to clear a debt he had with the financial institution.

The confrontation ensued when agents were sent to repossess a vehicle from Sammy Gachuhi after he failed to pay a Sh 1.7 Million loan.

“We have known this guy for quite a while and by virtue of being a client to the Rafiki Bank he borrowed a loan that he later failed to service. That’s when we were called in to reclaim the dues by any means,” one of the auctioneers said.

According to the agents, Mr Gachuhi turned violent and attempted to escape when the officers tried to get hold of him at Eastleigh market. When he realised he could not get away, he resorted to shooting one of the debt collectors on the left shoulder.

“When we spotted him we blocked him with our cars and presented him with the repossession letter but he started arguing with us. He later drew his gun and shot one of my colleagues as he tried to escape,” the auctioneer was quoted by Nairobi News.

The victim was taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment while Gachuhi was apprehended and locked up at Eldoret Central Police Station.

Area police boss Samuel Mutunga stated: “We recovered the gun and documents and our officers are investigating whether the gun was acquired through the right procedure”.
