CORD Kicks Out These MPs After Rebellion

The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) has dropped two of its Members of Parliament (MPs) from House Committees.

On Thursday, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi announced that Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi and his Likoni counterpart Masoud Mwahima had been kicked out of two Committees.

Wandayi was removed from the Agriculture and Environment Committee while Mwahima was ejected from the Health Board. The Speaker therefore advised that the Committees effect the changes immediately.

The move comes after Wandayi was barred from setting foot in the House until February next year, for disobeying Standing Orders, after continuously blowing whistles during a State of the Nation Address.

On the other hand, Mwahima got into trouble with the coalition after he was spotted leaving Mombasa State House with a brown envelope which was claimed to have contained money.

The legislator went ahead to announce that he had shifted camp from the Opposition to Jubilee, claiming that the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) was planning to deny him the 2017 nomination ticket.

However, the coalition explained the move which could be interpreted as a punishment to the legislators, stating that the changes were made just to reorganise its team.
