Deputy Governor Arrested by Alcoblow Officers

A deputy governor was on Friday arrested after failing an alcohol blow test by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

Kakamega's Philip Museve Kutima spent the night at Ruiru Police Station after he was intercepted by NTSA officers during one of the crackdowns along various roads in Nairobi.

By Saturday 9am Mr Kutima was still being held at the station together among 43 other offenders arrested in the night.

Ironically, Government officials were among the arrested drivers and are expected in court on Monday.

In April last year, Vihiga deputy governor Caleb Amaswachwe was allegedly deported from Singapore immediately after landing for being drunk.

In his defence, Amaswache said that alcohol was served on the plane and being intoxicated was not an issue.

“Alcohol is served on flights. Being drunk should not be a reason to deny one entry into a foreign country,” he told journalists.
