EACC Drops Ngilu's Sh110 Million Graft Case

Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu has been relieved of one graft case against her, while two other Cabinet Secretaries await charges.

In a statement released Monday, the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) has recommended to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) the closure of the case in which Charity Ngilu is alleged to have conspired to defraud the government of Sh110 million.

Ngilu had been alleged to have conspired with land valuers and Evanson Waitiki to overstate the value of Waitiki's farm in Likoni, Mombasa that was to be bought from Mr Waitiki to settle squatters.

EACC has also recommended the dismissal of the case against Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Felix Kosgei in which he had been accused of irregularly leasing land belonging to the Kenya Vaccine Production Institute in Tigoni, Kiambu.

However charges for abuse of office have been recommended against Transport Cabinet Secretary Michael Kamau and Labour Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi.

Kambi is accused of irregularly appointing Andrew Muigai and Veska Kangogo as members of the NSSF Board.

On the other hand CS Kamau is accused of embezzlement of funds in the ongoing construction of Kamukuywa-Kaptama-Kapsokwony-Kimilili road, where he allegedly colluded with the contractor to change the road design, leading to loss of public funds.
