Equity CEO Reveals He Was Last in Exams

Equity Bank Chief Executive Officer Dr James Mwangi has disclosed that he was once a bottom student in his class while in primary school.

The award winning CEO, who was on an interview at KTN Thursday night, revealed that at one point while in Class Three, he became position 34 out of the total 34 students.

“I took eight years rather seven in primary school then, since I was made to repeat class three[sic],” revealed Dr. Mwangi.

Interestingly, Dr Mwangi, is one the most brilliant managers in the country. He joined Equity Bank in 1993 when it was a struggling society making losses and was ranked 66 out of 66 banks in Kenya then.

He, however, transformed the financial institution into one of the biggest banks in terms of assets and profits in Kenya.

Six years ago, the bank commenced a project dubbed 'Wings to fly' that seeks to help bright and needy students access education through sponsorships.

Since the initiative began, Equity bank has successfully sponsored thousands of students with some already practising in their professions.
