EXPOSED: How Government Tried to Cover Up Poisonous Vaccine

A letter written by a law firm to the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) and the Ministry of Health has highlighted shocking details of how the Government tried to cover up the results of contaminated polio vaccine.

According to the missive undersigned by Gitobu Imanyara & Co advocates, the Health Ministry and the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) contracted the law firm's client, AgriQ Quest Laboratory Limited, to conduct tests on 56 samples of the vaccine.

However, when the laboratory delivered the findings which showed that the polio vaccine was contaminated, PPB reportedly instructed them to alter the results.

“Owing to the shocking findings of contamination of the vaccines, our client was orally advised to alter the report to indicate that they were safe to be administered. When he cited professionalism and the impact any alteration would have, they were informed that they would not be paid their fees unless they altered the said contents,” the letter read in part.

The Catholic Church had earlier cast doubt on the vaccine administered in April 2015 during a nationwide Polio Campaign, stating that it was impure; a claim the Ministry emphatically dismissed.

“The Ministry of Health wishes to assure all Kenyans that the vaccine being used during the polio vaccination is safe and effective,” Health Principal Secretary Khadijah Kassachoon was quoted by the Nation in a report on August 2, 2015.

After AgriQ Quest declined to alter the alarming results, the Pharmacy and Poisons Board stated that it would pay the Laboratory Sh600,000 yet the earlier agreement was Sh5.7 Million.

AgriQ Quest Laboratory indicated that besides suffering major losses following the refusal of the Government to pay for the services rendered, the company's publicity was also stained as it failed to pay its employees.

Lawyer Gitobu Imanyara told Kenyans.co.ke that the Catholic Church, which had jointly asked for the test with the Ministry, accepted the results and advised that the vaccination be stopped in its institution but the Government refused to accept.

On Monday, a catholic nun who is also the head teacher of St Anthony Academy in Nakuru was arrested for blocking health officers from immunising over 700 pupils against measles and rubella.
