Governor's 'Friend' Caught Receiving Sh1 Million Bribe

A man claiming to be very close to Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya was on Saturday dramatically arrested after receiving a Sh1 Million bribe.

According to the police, Faiz Mohammed Gunda was caught red-handed by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption (EACC) officials immediately after receiving the colossal amount from a Mombasa businessman.

Gunda is alleged to have assured the businessman a road construction tender from the Kwale County government.

He was nabbed at Nyali Naivas supermarket where the deal took place.

The suspect is said to have been claiming that he was a senior official at the county's procument office.

Southern and Mombasa EACC boss Simon Cherpka confirmed Gunda's arrest.

"He will assist in revealing names of other suspects especially senior officials at the county,” he said.

According to Cherpka, Gunda was working with officials at the procurement department and together had been defrauding members of the public.

The suspect was detained at the Port Police Station.
