HELB Hires Agents Abroad To Collect Loans

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) will hire agents to find loan defaulters who have relocated to Britain or the United States Of America.

This is in a move to help increase loan collections from past graduates.

Business Daily reports that HELB has posted job vacancies in websites of Kenya’s key embassies abroad.

The agents, whose job title will be 'HELB Brand Ambassadors' will be responsible for driving brand awareness, recovery and advocacy.

They will be recruited on part time contracts and paid on commission basis.

HELB has targeted Britain and the US as they generate the bulk of Kenya’s diaspora remittances.

The board has been concentrating on collecting loans locally, imposing penalties on defaulters.

Currently, most employers in the country require a clearance certificate from HELB from individuals applying for jobs.

HELB says it is owed billions from graduates in unpaid loans.
