IEBC 'Finds' Solution to Missing Names During Elections

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is planning to test a new strategy that it could use in the upcoming 2017 General Election.

The commission stated on Thursday that it was piloting a new voting process which involved printing the register and posting it at polling stations a week before the voting day.

According to the electoral body, the new approach to elections would allow voters confirm their names and polling queues before the voting day.

In the 2013 General Election, there were numerous cases of confusion at polling stations with many voters missing their names in the IEBC register.

The new plan of action will be tested by the Commission during Ward by-elections in Uyoma West (Rarieda), Lelmokwo/Ngechek (Chesumei) and Ngobit (Laikipia East) on June 3, 2016.

The announcement comes at a time when IEBC is facing major opposition from CORD coalition leaders who are demanding its disbandment.

CORD has been leading anti-IEBC demonstrations across the country stating that the electoral body could not be trusted with managing next year's elections.
