Junior Police Officer Names 4 Corrupt Bosses

A junior police officer on Friday exposed his corrupt bosses during the ongoing vetting process by the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) in Mombasa.

The officer unveiled names of four high-ranking policemen to the Commission stating that they were among the bosses collecting colossal amounts of money from them.

They included Senior Superintendent Joseph Kimei, Superintendents Gikanda Douglas, Eliud Monare and David Ndungu Wanga.

During the grilling, the junior officer confirmed that the four police bosses had extorted money from him. The allegations were then proved by his M-Pesa statements which he presented to the vetting panel.

According to the statements, the officer had sent Superintendent Kimei a total of Sh198, 000 while Mr Monare received Sh84,503 from him with Mr Gikanda and Wangai getting Sh18,000 and Sh32,000 respectively.

"Saa ingine wanakupata umekaa pale ofisini wanauliza ni kwa nini huleti kakitu (Sometimes they would find you at the office and ask why you are not bringing them money)," the junior officer was quoted by the Nation.

He added that his seniors would give him a government vehicle to facilitate easy operation in the money.

NPSC Commissioner Ronald Musengi affirmed that the four officers would be recalled and vetted afresh as they had been mentioned negatively by many junior officers.

The ongoing vetting in Mombasa has unmasked a network of corruption within the police service in which millions of shillings are exchanged among senior cops.

The exercise which began on May 24, targets 238 traffic officers in Mombasa before the vetting panel move to Nyanza and Western regions.
