KDF Bosses are Rude, MPs Complain

A meeting between top Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) commanders and Members of Parliament turned fiery after the military bosses stuck to their guns declining to disclose information on the aftermath of the El Adde Somalia attack, whose magnitude has remained a subject of speculation.

The National Assembly Defence Committee had summoned Chief of Defence Forces Samuel Mwathethe, Head of Military Intelligence Charles Mwai and the commander of operations to reveal more details on the attack as well as their role and preparedness.

The Defence Committee hard pressed the KDF heads to disclose the number of Kenyan soldiers who were slained in the El Adde camp, but the Generals declined to let out information, instead urged the lawmakers to be patient and wait for an inquiry report on the attack which is yet to be released.

“The officers have refused to give information. They are insisting that we wait for a report by the board of inquiry. They have equally declined to disclose the number of those who were at El Adde, how many were killed and those missing,” stated a member of the committee who sought anonymity.

Another Member of the Defence Committee is reported to have described the KDF bosses as “rude and evasive”, adding that the meeting did not yield any vital information in regard to whether there was prior information before the attack or the number of casualties KDF suffered.

The Government has since remained unforthcoming on the El Adde incident which Al Shabaab claimed responsibility and purpoted to have killed over 100 soldiers.

The Committee led by Tetu lawmaker Ndung'u Gethenji had last week summoned Defence Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo on the attack on KDF.
