Following the anti-IEBC protests by the Opposition, the United Kingdom has advised its citizens to observe extra vigilance while in Nairobi and Kisumu.
In a travel advice note released on Tuesday, the UK government singled the two cities out as volatile areas owing to the Monday unrests.
“Political protests in Nairobi, Kisumu and other parts of Kenya are planned in the lead up to August 2017 elections. Monitor local and international media and keep up to date with this travel,” reads part of the notice.
The notice further warned Britons residing in the country to be careful and exercise heightened level of vigilance when at public places.
Britain's move comes after the violence witnessed during previous demonstrations by the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) against the electoral body.
The new measure could hurt the country's tourism sector considering the high number of visitors who stream in from the UK every year.
During the fourth anti-IEBC protest, Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala warned that the unrest would scare away tourists.
The advisory comes at a time when President Uhuru Kenyatta announced that after consultation with Speakers of both Houses and religious leaders, they decided to a form committee which will be tasked with resolving the IEBC tussle.
On Monday, CORD stated that it would add more days of demonstrating if the government failed to honour calls for "structured dialogue" in addressing the IEBC stalemate.
