Kidero Gets 'Special Employee' Earning Sh4 Million Monthly

The Nairobi County Government will be securing services of an executive officer earning Sh4 Million monthly.

The Chief Resilience Officer (CRO) will be hired for the City Government by a US-based foundation, Rockefeller, to come up with a resilience plan to tackle disasters such as fires, floods, economic fluctuations and disease outbreaks.

The executive will also look at the inadequate social amenities like housing and health, create plans for efficient infrastructure to ease traffic jams and make the city competitive in the race for investments.

This comes after the Rockefeller Foundation admitted Nairobi to its 100 Resilient Cities programme, where it will base a CRO whose pay will be $1 Million for two years or Sh4.1 million monthly.

The hiring cost will be met directly by the US-based firm.

“Cities only receive direct funding to hire a CRO…and cities will not receive a direct check for $1 million.

“But the rest of the benefits of working with us come in other, more valuable forms such as technical expertise, support to develop a resilience plan and access to our platform partners,” the Business Daily quotes Rockefeller.

The CRO will report directly to Governor Evans Kidero and will be responsible for developing the resilience plan.

The plan will indicate how a city can respond and survive single-event shocks like fires, floods and buildings collapse as well as how the city can grow from modern day challenges of traffic congestion, housing shortages, disease and unemployment.
