Kidero: You Cannot Freeze My Account

Nairobi Governor, Dr.Evans Kidero has lashed out at an application seeking to freeze his bank account.

Kidero termed the application as an abuse of judicial process, guided by political hatred.

The application issued by businessman Jacob Juma accuses the govenor of stealing Sh650 million, during his term as the Managing Director at Mumias Sugar Company.

The governor claims that the accusations do not have any basis and wants the High Court to reject the application.

In a statement issued to the court, Mr.Kidero says, "I never received the money in cash on behalf of the company. The sum alleged to have been paid to me by Y.H. Wholesalers Limited for the sale of 1,3450 metric tons of sugar was paid to the account belonging to Mumias Sugar Company through three different bank transfer transactions on different dates”.

This comes amidst heightened 'sugar politics' in the country marred by corruption allegations.

Mr.Juma, however, insists there is evidence showing that Kidero received the cash on behalf of Mumias Sugar Company.

He asserts the closure of Dr.Kidero's bank account to deter him from transferring the monies.
