Kenya Power Officials Sacked for Lying to Minister

Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter has reportedly fired officials at the Kenya Power company for misleading his Ministry.

Keter is said to have gotten angry after some officers from the lighting company lied about the schools electrification initiative that has been going on in readiness for the primary school laptop project promised by the Jubilee government.

According to a report by the Standard, the officers had assured that the electrification project would be complete within the timeline provided, only for his Ministry to get a different situation on the ground.

"We have a duty to Kenyans as a ministry. We pledged to ensure all primary schools are powered to enable the Government kick off the laptops project and no laxity will be entertained. The affected staff lied to us, only for us to get contrary information from the ground," he assured.

The CS avoided to reveal identities of the staff who would be affected by the dismissal orders.

At the same time, Keter exuded confidence that the electrification process would be complete by next month, noting that only less than a thousand schools were yet to benefit from the project.

"A total of 21,733 primary schools have been connected, of which 17,890 are connected to the grid while 3,843 have solar power. The remaining 866 are on course," he asserted.
