KQ Explains Why Rugby Team Used Qatar Airways

Kenyans were left puzzled on Tuesday after the national sevens team popularly known as Shujaa, touched down at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport aboard a Qatar Airways plane.

Many took to Twitter to point out the irony in Kenya Airways sponsoring Shujaa and missing on the moment to bask in the glory, hence letting their competitor steal the show to build their brand.

Speaking at Ole Sereni Hotel where the sevens team was hosted, Kenya Airways CEO Mbuvi Ngunze stated that "Qatar Airways was the official carrier for the Hong Kong and Singapore legs of the HSBC Sevens series".

In addition Kenya Airways moved to their twitter account to explain the puzzling scenario stating: "We can never be too busy for our boys. We gave them a convenient connection via airline to airline agreement."

The Shujaa touched down at around 2.20pm and were received by Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario, Kenya Airways CEO Mbuvi Ngunze and Kenya Rugby Union Chair Richard Omwela among other dignitaries.

After brief celebrations at JKIA, top-of-the-range vehicles including limousines chauffeured the Singapore circuit champions to the Ole Sereni Hotel along Mombasa Road where the team's sponsor, Kenya Airways, organised a luncheon.
