Lawyer in Police Murder Case Disappears

A lawyer and his client were reportedly kidnapped by gunmen moments after attending a criminal case at the Mavoko Law Courts.

Lawyer Willie Kimani of a US-backed  NGO - Internal Justice Mission (IJM) - and his client Eric Mwendwa went missing on Thursday after suing a police officer for attempted murder.

According to police, the two together with a taxi driver who ferried them to court are believed to have been abducted by gunmen along Mombasa Road.

The taxi that the missing persons used was recovered in a tea plantation in Tigoni, Naivasha.

By Monday, police had traced the signal of a mobile phone belonging to Kimani in the same area but was yet to be recovered.

Mwendwa is said to have sued a police officer who shot him following a disagreement over 'personal issues'.

According to the complainant, the policeman accused him of being in possession of marijuana, allegations he denied.

The plaintiff sought services of Kimani claiming that police officers were intimidating him to drop the case.

On Saturday morning, residents of Kijabe village reported to the police that they had spotted two bodies at a swamp in Monkey Corner area near Naivasha.

It is not clear if the bodies were of the missing persons as they remain unidentified.
