Lions Attack Kenyan Billionaire's Family Property

The Delamere family suffered losses amounting to millions of shillings after lions invaded their ranch mauling over 100 cows and sheep.

The lions believed to be from the Nakuru National Park are said to have sneaked through the Gilgil farm's inactive electric fence before attacking the animals.

The unknown number of lions caught everybody on the farm unaware, killing the livestock before sneaking out.

Confirming the incident, the farm's security manager Jess Mito said that a similar incident happened last year when eight lions entered the farm but did not kill any animal.

Mito said that the farm which deals in livestock and dairy products has tried to find a solution from the Nakuru National Park, but all has been in vain.

He said that the Saturday night incident left many people with anxiety.

"We have tens of workers and their children living in the farm and our fear is that the animals could turn to them," he said. "This is the first time we have had such a challenge and we are seeking ways of dealing with these lions,” Mito is quoted by The Star.

He added that the farm would be seeking compensation from the Kenya Wildlife Service.
