A 39-year-old man was sentenced to death for stabbing his wife 23 times and licked her blood over the use of her mobile phone.
The court heard that Bernard Mwenga Wilson killed Caroline Mbeta instantly after a quarrel that resulted in a bloody affair in front of witnesses on October 28, 2010.
Justice Luka Kimaru ruled, saying that witnesses had testified of several incidents where the couple would disagree and break into fights.
“The fact that you stabbed your wife 23 times shows you had an intention to kill. Witnesses saw you lick her blood which had stained the knife you used to attack her,” said the judge.
An autopsy report presented in court proved that the incident which occurred at Ms Mbeta's work place, resulted in blood oozing from the victim's chest from multiple stab wounds on her head, shoulder, and lower abdomen.
Mr Mwenga countered the allegations stating that he had no recollection of the events of the fateful day because he was drunk.
The judge rejected his defence and gave him 14 days to appeal.
