Man Plants Knife on Wife's Cheek

A man on Wednesday evening stabbed his wife on the cheek in a domestic dispute at their home in Khorof Harar, Wajir County.

The knife, which reportedly struck a bone in the jaw area, failed to be dislodged by doctors at Wajir General Hospital forcing Fatum Ibrahim to await airlifting to Nairobi's Kenyatta National Hospital.

Doctors at the hospital at the Wajir said that removing  knife would endanger the life of Ms Ibrahim due to its delicate position.

Mohamed Deeq allegedly stabbed his wife despite intervention by his brother who had earlier confiscated all knives and sought assistance from the Police.

The 32-year-old and mother of four, was found in a bad state and rushed to hospital in an ambulance secured by medics and police.

Women rights activist groups protested in the town claiming their rights had been ignored by the Government.

"The rights of women must be upheld to prevent attacks by these beasts. We want the government to be serious about gender-based violence," said one identified as Sahara Keynan.

Wajir East OCPD Benson Makumbi, confirmed the incident saying that Mr Deeq was in Police custody and would be arraigned in court on Friday.
