Matiang'i Kicks Motivational Speakers Out of Schools

The Ministry of Education has announced a ban on all motivational talks in schools to boost the security of students.

Speaking to headteachers during a retreat in Kisumu County, Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang stated that the Ministry had cancelled all letters that had been issued to motivational speakers in learning institutions.

According to the PS, some of the facilitators at those sessions were responsible for the radicalisation of learners hence, would no longer be welcome to speak to students.

“We have revoked all letters of motivational speakers and as a result you should not welcome any one of them in your schools. Some of these people are poisoning our children with information that is not good for their development,” declared Kipsang.

The Ministry warned the school heads against allowing such speakers into their institution adding that disciplinary action would be taken against those who ignored the order.

“Head teachers should immediately call the police in case anybody visits their schools with letters of permission purported to be from the Ministry. Any head teacher who is allowing them in their schools is doing so at their own peril,” he added.

Mr Kipsang further put a halt to live performance of set books in schools which he said would restore sanity in the education sector.

“We must put stringent measures in place to ensure that our children are not fed with the wrong information,” clarified the PS.

A few weeks ago, Education Minister Fred Matiangi came under fire from church leaders and other stakeholders after cancelling visiting days, prayer days and other social activities during schools' third term.
