Most Dangerous Roads in Nairobi Revealed

The National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) has released statistics showing figures of fatalities in most of the Kenyan roads and outlined some of the areas marked as black spots.

According to the 2015 statistics, in Nairobi CountyMombasa road was the most dangerous highway to drive on where 59 people lost their lives out of the 628 deaths recorded on City roads.

Thika Superhighway was ranked second with a total of 50 fatalities, while Waiyaki Way was third claiming the lives of 45 people.

According NTSA, most victims were pedestrians, knocked down by speeding vehicles. Other 'killer' roads included: Eastern Bypass, Kangundo Road, Northern Bypass and Jogoo Road with 33, 31, 30 and 26 fatalities respectively.

Various areas around the country were are also identified as black spots where most accidents were likely to happen.

In Nairobi, Maziwa Stage along Jogoo Road and the area around Kangemi flyover were named as most risky in the county.

Also in the report, Nakuru County was placed second with a total of 235 deaths. Most accidents happened along Salgaa-Kibunja stretch, nicknamed as 'highway to hell',  and the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.

The report comes during the onset of the Christmas festivities, a season in which deadly accidents are reported every year.

On Tuesday morning, four people died while others sustained serious injuries after being hit by a rolling lorry as they purchased Christmas goods in Isiolo County.
